You will be Joining a reader design team with a strong track record in innovation and technical excellence.  A typical project involves using micromagnetic and magnetic recording modeling tools to generate new ideas, propose new experiments and then test to validate with the statistical rigor. A successful project requires strong collaboration with other functional groups. So, apply your talent as an engineer who can design the next generation reader for Seagate HDD products. You will report to an Engineering director in the Transducer Design team at the Bloomington, MN Seagate site.

About the role - you will:

 

  • Work as part of a development team to help develop key magnetic recording read head technologies for hard drive applications.
  • Lead the development of reader modeling to assess novel ideas for improving reader SNR, down track, and cross track resolution capabilities.
  • Analyze wafer/slider/HGA level data of new design experiments and generate clear and actionable conclusions to guide the performance and reliability improvement of next generation recording head design.
  • Track experiments, define and execute testing plans, and follow up on failure analysis (FA) to ensure thorough understanding of the data and its implications.
  • Constantly interact with technology leads, modeling engineers, process teams, and testing teams.
  • Extract sound conclusions from both volume statistical data and small sample size engineering testing results.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to the team.

Your experience includes:

 

  • Strong fundamentals in magnetics.
  • Experience in following the latest innovations in magnetic recording and spintronics, in general.
  • Extensive experience in preparing, presenting, and defending data and conclusions.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and take ownership.
  • Strong independent work capability and teamwork skills.
  • Regular verbal and written reporting to all levels of management.
  • Experience in leading projects and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Minimal domestic travel (< 2 weeks/year).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field (i.e., Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, or Information Technology) and 12+ years of experience or master’s degree in the same and 8+ years’ experience or PhD and 5+ years’ experience or equivalent experience and education.

 

You might also have:

 

  • Experience with design for six sigma, DOE, and statistical analysis tools like JMP.
  • Knowledge of wafer processing, recording head electrical testing, and electrical signal processing

The estimated base salary range for this position is $126,048.00 - $183,703.00. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
