Posting Date:  Jun 13, 2026
Job ID:  13973

About our group:

Recording Media Operations (RMO) is a core manufacturing and technology organization within Seagate, responsible for delivering high-quality recording media through advanced, high-volume, and highly automated manufacturing processes.

The Global Quality Group within RMO plays a critical role in enabling operational excellence by embedding robust quality management systems, digital quality tools, and disciplined process controls across factories and suppliers. Through close vertical integration with drive factories, design centers, and suppliers, the team ensures that quality, yield, and reliability are built into products from development through volume ramps.

This role offers the opportunity to lead in a technology intensive manufacturing environment - where data, systems, and process rigor are essential to business success.

About the role - you will:

As the Senior Manager of Media Quality, you will lead factory facing quality engineering teams and partner closely with engineering, operations, and suppliers to ensure robust, scalable, and data driven quality performance across Recording Media Operations.

You will:

  • Lead and develop the Factory Quality Engineering team to deliver high-quality components, products, and processes aligned with Seagate’s product development and manufacturing roadmaps.

  • Drive process discipline and digital quality execution, ensuring consistent application of quality systems, control plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Partner with Development, Factory Engineering, Operations, Equipment, and cross functional stakeholders to optimize throughput, yield, and process capability in high-volume manufacturing environments.

  • Champion data driven decision making, leveraging statistical tools, dashboards, and manufacturing data to identify risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.

  • Own and initiate Discrepant Material Reviews (DMRs) to contain nonconforming material, providing proactive “feedforward” alerts to prevent downstream impact.

  • Coach and support the team to ensure timely execution of deliverables, clear prioritization, and strong stakeholder communication.

  • Collaborate with Factory Engineering and Design Engineering on new product development (NPI), media qualification, and process readiness.

  • Partner with Design Engineering, Process Engineering, and Production to drive continuous quality improvement initiatives that improve margin, reduce variation, and enhance process stability.

  • Support Seagate drive factories and operations sites during NPI builds, qualification phases, and volume ramps.

  • Coordinate ramp readiness with Drive Factory Quality and Operations, tracking key indicators such as yield, quality metrics, qualification status, ramp readiness, SBR, and RGA builds.

  • Establish, document, and track process and product qualification plans, ensuring readiness for volume production.

  • Partner with Contamination, Design Center engineering, and Supplier Engineering on component cleanliness standards, cleaning technologies, process capability, and control strategies.

  • Review, manage, and close quality issues raised by media factories, ensuring clear communication, ownership, and timely resolution with Seagate factory teams.

  • Ensure effective execution of supplier corrective and preventive actions using CAPA, 8D, and OSB processes.

  • Proactively escalate quality risks and business impacts to senior quality leadership with clear data, impact assessment, and mitigation plans.

  • Conduct on-site process audits and assessments as required.

  • Partner with Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) to monitor and validate supplier process and product changes through formal change management.

  • Support performance evaluations and talent development by consolidating objective, data-based input.

  • Drive cross learning and best practice sharing across suppliers, factories, and engineering teams to improve process capability, robustness, and product performance

About you:

  • A technology savvy leader who thrives in complex, data rich manufacturing environments.

  • Strong in process control thinking, with the ability to translate systems, data, and procedures into consistent execution.

  • Comfortable leading through influence across engineering, operations, and supplier ecosystems.

  • Biased toward action

  • Highly structured, analytical, and disciplined in problem solving and decision making.

  • Able to operate effectively under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and drive results with minimal supervision.

  • A clear communicator who can engage confidently with factory teams, suppliers, and senior leadership.

  • Passionate about continuous improvement, operational excellence, and developing high performing teams

  • Experience applying smart factory Industry 4.0 principles in manufacturing environments

  • An AI-forward thinker

Your experience includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Management, or related technical discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience in new product introduction, advanced component engineering, and high-volume manufacturing, preferably in HDD, media, semiconductor manufacturing, or similarly complex environments.

  • Strong working knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001) and structured problem-solving methodologies.

  • Six Sigma certification or demonstrated proficiency with statistical analysis tools and quality data analytics.

  • Proven experience leading cross functional teams in technology driven manufacturing operations.

  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, process controls, and variation reduction techniques.
