About our group:

The Material Science Laboratory (MSL) is part of the Asia Media Development organization located at RMO Woodlands. Our laboratory is equipped will multiple wet chemistry and surface analytical instrument/tool, and the primary function is to provide analytical tests/solutions for media qualification to improve media yield, quality and reliability. The department also serves a critical role on HDM tribology, corrosion, outgoing media quality, defect and particle/contamination reduction through working closely with other functional departments, thus enabling other functions in the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Recording Technology, R&D, Customer Integration and Manufacturing. This role will be reporting to an Engineering Manager and supervised by senior staff.and operational excellence.

This role reports to an Engineering Manager and offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and scientists in a collaborative laboratory environment.

About the role - you will:

As a Material Science Intern, work closely with seasonal professional who will provide comprehensive training in operating analytical instruments such as ICPMS, ICPOES, GC-MS, IC, FTIR, KF Titrator, LC-ToF.

  • Gain hands-on experience to conduct data acquisition, result generation, report preparation, and publishing.
  • Sample Preparation: Learn various sample preparation techniques tailored to different materials and sample types.
  • Correlation Studies: Contribute to exciting projects involving the correlation study between ICPMS and TMIC, specifically in the context of media corrosion testing.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with teams from engineering, quality assurance (QA), and supplier quality engineering (SQE) on sample analysis and job submissions.
  • Working on contamination quality improvement initiatives.

  • You will start by understanding the foundational aspects of our laboratory's work, including the basics of analytical instrument operation and data analysis.
  • Initial tasks will focus on supporting ongoing projects and learning our internal processes and methodologies.

What You Would Ultimately Be Able to Be Proficient In?

  • You will develop proficiency in conducting research and analysis, handling complex instrumentation with confidence.
  • Have an End-to-end understanding of recording media process
  • Gain skills in interdisciplinary collaboration, contributing to larger projects while coordinating with different teams.
  • Become adept in conducting correlation studies, crucial for understanding and improving media corrosion test methods.

Your experience includes:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
  • Knowledge of analytical lab instruments & statistics is preferred.
  • Experience in programming (Matlab, Python, SQL, JMP etc..), six sigma & data analysis knowledge

Our Woodlands site is one of the largest electronics manufacturing sites in Singapore, housing our recording media operations. Spread over three sites, it is easily accessible via bus or from the MRT Station, with many employees taking mass transportation to work.
