About our group:

Multi Disk Writer (MDW) Equipment group is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration and continuous improvement of more than 5K MDW equipment in production. MDW Equipment group is working with cross functional teams to ensure equipment reliability, optimized equipment usage, compliance with safety and regulatory standards and performance.  The team also initiates root cause analysis, formulates corrective and preventive actions for equipment related issues both at the factory and at drive site. The MDW Equipment team’s goal is to meet or exceed target efficiency for all the MDW equipment to support planned production capacity while maintaining the product quality. 

About the role - you will:

As an MDW Equipment Intern, you will work closely with experienced Equipment Engineers to look into mapping Key Process Input Variable’s (KPIV) related to machine health and preempt machine failures 

  • Gain hands-on experience in the design, development, testing and deployment of software applications relevant to monitoring MDW tester health and performance. 

  • Automate current manual and future MDW equipment data and reports. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including process, launch, HD, etc., to underpin areas of improvement in machine performance through automated data.  

  • Document technical processes and contribute to internal knowledge bases. 

  • Participate in code reviews and team meetings. 

 

What Will You Learn and Embark on at the Start?  

  • You will start by gaining knowledge on media manufacturing process from front end to back end. 

  • Understand the MDW servo writing process, test parameters collected, error handling and impact to downstream process. 

  • Assist Equipment engineers in big data acquisition and analysis.  

 

What You Would Ultimately Be Able to Be Proficient In? 

  • You will develop proficiency in developing software tools to data mine, analyze and present results in a manufacturing environment. 

  • Be adept in interdisciplinary collaboration  

About you:

We are looking for a passionate and driven Data Engineering Intern to join our engineering team for a full time semester internship (Jan to May/Jul). This is a great opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in software development and look into data engineering of our equipment, work on real-world projects, and learn from experienced professionals in a collaborative environment. 

Your experience includes:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field. 

  • Intermediate understanding of programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or C++. 

  • Familiarity with AI and Machine Learning. 

  • Familiarity with web development frameworks and exposure to databases (SQL or NoSQL) 

  • Personal or academic projects demonstrating software development skills. 

  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git.

Our Woodlands site is one of the largest electronics manufacturing sites in Singapore, housing our recording media operations. Spread over three sites, it is easily accessible via bus or from the MRT Station, with many employees taking mass transportation to work.
