About our group:

The Group is a part of the Asia media Development organization responsible for the replication of advanced Heat assisted magnetic recording media for qualification and transfer to manufacturing.  You will be working with engineers in the Material Science Lab (MSL) with a mission is to provide analytical test solutions to enable media and product qualification on product yield, quality, and reliability. The team also serves a critical role on (Head-Disk-Mechanical) HDM tribology, contamination, and defect reduction, working closely with and enabling other functions in the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Recording Technology, R&D, Customer Integration, and Manufacturing.

About the role - you will:

As part of our commitment to improve development efficiency and engineering insight, Seagate is building Generative AI-powered user interfaces that allow engineers to interact with structured data through natural language. We are looking for an intern with solid Python skills and interest in AI-powered UI development to join a collaborative, cross-functional team.  This role will report to an Engineering Manager and you will work closely with media development engineers and the Global Factory Information Technologies(GFIT) team to design, prototype, and deploy intuitive GenAI tools that operate on coherent structured datasets gathered from multiple tools and manufacturing processes.

  • Develop and prototype natural language interfaces that allow users to query and interpret structured data (e.g., production metrics, test results, equipment logs).
  • Build user-facing components to interact with GenAI models (e.g., OpenAI, FastAI), focusing on responsive, intuitive UI design.
  • Collaborate with various engineering groups to develop, validate and implement AI Agents and tools for their use case to improve productivity, analysis automation, and other needs to improve development efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers and IT specialists to understand domain-specific workflows and data relationships.
  • Support testing and iteration cycles based on user feedback and performance evaluation.

About you:

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about AI and excited to explore the frontiers of Generative AI in real-world industrial settings. You should be:

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills; able to thrive in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team
  • Curious, inventive, and eager to learn.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Your experience includes:

  • Currently pursuing Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or Basic Engineering Science (Physics, Electrical, Mechanical, Material Science, Chemistry).
  • Good at Python programming and familiar with GenAI frameworks (OpenAI API, FastAI etc)
  • Knowledgeable in machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing.

Our Woodlands site is one of the largest electronics manufacturing sites in Singapore, housing our recording media operations. Spread over three sites, it is easily accessible via bus or from the MRT Station, with many employees taking mass transportation to work.
