About our group:

Servo Engineering’s primary mission is to provide robust ultra-precision position control technologies to enable aggressive advancement in high performance HDD areal density growth. The team also serves a critical HDD Systems & Architecture role, working closely with and enabling other functions in the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Recording Technology, Tribology, Customer Interface, Manufacturing, and Reliability. In this role you will lead the Hardware Engineering, Servo Product & Technology Architectures group and will provide high level leadership on servo design and architecture delivery to enable Seagate’s future roadmap.

About the role - you will:

As a Servo Engineering Intern, work on cutting-edge control systems and integrate emerging AI/ML technologies into precision servo design.

  • Assist in the design and optimization of servo control algorithms for high-performance hard disk systems.
  • Conduct modeling, simulation, and analysis of control systems to improve accuracy and robustness.
  • Explore and implement AI/ML techniques for adaptive and predictive control strategies.
  • Collaborate on research projects involving robotic controller design and causality-based AI systems for advanced control applications.
  • Document findings and present results to the engineering team.

About you:

We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join our advanced engineering team focused on servo controller design for next-generation hard disk drives.

  • Able to analyze problems systematically and propose practical solutions.
  • Adaptable and willing to learn emerging technologies and methodologies.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment and taking initiative.
  • of managing tasks effectively and documenting findings clearly.
  • Able to commit to a full-time internship from [May/Aug to Dec]

Your experience includes:

  • Currently pursuing Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems, Robotics, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of control theory fundamentals (classical and modern control).
  • Hands-on experience in control system design projects or related research.
  • Application of AI/ML techniques in control system design.
  • Familiarity with robotic controller design or causality-based AI systems.
  • Proficiency in modelling and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python.
  • Programming experience for embedded systems and real-time computing environments.
  • Competence in data acquisition and instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, DAC, NI equipment)

Location:

The Shugart site (named after Seagate’s founder, Al Shugart) is a research and design center. Easily accessible from the One-North MRT Station, many employees choose to take mass-transportation to work.
