Embedded Software Engineering Intern

Location:

Shugart, SG

Posting Date:  Jul 23, 2026
Job ID:  14748

About our group:

The Servo Engineering team develops advanced control and signal processing technologies that enable high-performance hard disk drives. Our team works closely with firmware, hardware, and manufacturing engineering groups across multiple global locations to develop, validate, and improve servo system functionality. We leverage data analytics, automation, and embedded system development to accelerate product innovation and improve engineering efficiency.

As an intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers on real product development projects and gain hands-on exposure to embedded systems, test automation, signal processing, and engineering tool development.

About the role - you will:

  • Develop, prototype, and refine the algorithm related to servo channel chip based on engineering requirements and measured signal behavior.
  • Implement embedded software modules in C for Arm, RiscV processors and supporting tools or analysis scripts in Python where appropriate.
  • Write, maintain, and execute test scripts to validate algorithm behavior, firmware interfaces, and regression results.
  • Analyze test data, debug failures, and summarize findings clearly for the engineering team.
  • Work with firmware and systems engineers to understand hardware constraints, timing considerations, memory use, and integration needs.
  • Support unit, integration, and regression testing, including automation improvements that make results easier to reproduce.
  • Document design assumptions, test procedures, known limitations, and verification results.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous-improvement activities within the team.

About you:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Curious about embedded software, firmware behavior, signal processing, and practical problem solving.
  • Comfortable learning independently while asking clear questions when requirements or results are ambiguous.
  • Able to break technical problems into smaller tasks, test assumptions, and communicate progress regularly.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and willing to document work so others can reproduce and build on it.
  • Collaborative team player with good written and verbal communication skills.

Your experience includes:

  • Programming experience in C for embedded software, firmware, microcontrollers, drivers, or low-level software projects.
  • Scripting experience in Python, MATLAB, or a similar language for testing, data analysis, or automation.
  • Basic understanding of digital signal processing concepts such as sampling, filtering, modulation/demodulation, FFTs, or noise analysis.
  • Familiarity with software testing concepts, including unit tests, test cases, regression tests, and result logging.
  • Ability to read technical documentation and translate requirements into working code and tests.
