About our group:

Material Science Lab is part of the Research and Development facilities located in Shugart building to support all HDD and some non-HDD material related selection, qualification, failure analysis, etc. The function of the lab includes performing components level material, pro-active qualification for new products and performing drive failure analysis to improve the drives quality and robustness. We work closely with cross sites, cross functional team on many projects.

About the role - you will:

• Explore and evaluate materials, support components and drive analysis in terms of organic contamination related area. Investigates, develops, and improvises organic methods and techniques to resolve organic issues.
• Develops solutions to technical problems through the application of materials science and engineering principles, theories, and concepts. Investigates and tests drives/components level for organic issues.
• Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. This job is a fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position.
• Operate and maintain Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) – Auto Thermal Desorption (ATD) equipment.

About you:

Your experience includes:

•  Degree (Bachelor) in Applied Sciences especially Chemistry, Material Science or Chemical Engineering field.
• Preferable with relevant Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) experience (i.e., operation, troubleshooting & analysis).

The Shugart site (named after Seagate’s founder, Al Shugart) is a research and design center.
