About our group:

The CTO Office PMO (Program Management Office) manages projects for the Research & Product Development (R&PD) organization. R&PD includes strong and diverse global engineering talent focused on fulfilling Seagate’s product development strategy for cloud storage through the edge.  

 

The mission of the CTO Office PMO is to provide our partners and stakeholders within R&PD and in other business functions complete, timely, accurate data in support of services and activities, including:  

 

  • Technical program/project management for Seagate Research and Advanced Product Development 
  • Project/Portfolio Management (PPM) for Seagate Research, External Research, HDD Advanced Technology Staging, Innovation Roadmap, and tools for Technology, Portfolio, and Resource Management 
  • Efficiency improvements, including data/workflow automation, budget/spend tracking tools, and lean process improvements  
  • Data analysis and visualization of complex, quantitative data as meaningful information, using tools like Alteryx and Tableau 
  • Continuous improvement for the broader Seagate organization through leadership and participation in professional development groups like the Project Management (PM) Community of Practice (CoP), the Smartsheet Users Group, SharePoint coaching, and Lean/Agile mentorship  
  • Support of R&PD innovation through event coordination and communications  
  • Support for Open Source & Inner Source, providing cross-functional coordination, process workflows, communications, and community-building 

 

As part of our PM practice, we follow the Seagate-defined process for managing Technology Development Plans (TDPs), the Seagate Research Phase Gate Process, and Program Life Cycle Process (PLCP), using best practices from PMI, Lean, and the Scaled Agile Framework. 

About the role - you will:

  • Work closely with R&PD engineering staff to manage the development of future technologies, particularly for HDD Tech Staging and Seagate Research. 
    • Use Seagate’s Technology Development Plan (TDP) process to deliver strategic technology hardware and firmware features that reliably intercept HDD product schedules.  
    • Lead and coordinate cross-functional project teams, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and alignment towards achieving project goals and milestones. 
    • Drive accountability and results based on project team commitments, in a cross-functional environment with competing demands and where you lack direct authority, using your skills for risk management, informal influence, and negotiation.  
    • Influence engineering leadership and extended project teams to support and understand technical projects to ensure technology development toward successful product integration.  
  • Employ program/project management best practices and be responsible for managing and/or consulting on multiple programs/projects in parallel. 
  • Drive, track, and report program/project progress, challenges, and opportunities. 
  • Drive procurement activities and build requests in support of Functional projects and TDPs. 
  • Make use of and drive support for Seagate’s project management toolset to promote collaboration and communication – e.g., M365 platform (Loop, OneNote, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams Channels, etc.), Smartsheet, Jira, LucidChart. 

About you:

  • Able to independently manage multiple projects in parallel. 
  • Possess excellent organization and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical projects across multiple teams, locations, and time zones.
  • Able to tailor “the message” and meaningful metrics for communications at multiple levels (project team, partners, executives).
  • Experience with influencing and negotiating outcomes in a cross-functional environment.
  • Knowledgeable about computer systems and networks.
  • Fluent in commonly used project management tools and best practices (as listed in the previous section).

Your experience includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other technical degree and 12+ years of experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering or other technical degree and 8+ years of experience, or PHD and 5+ years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Program/ Project Management experience in engineering development – preferably related to hardware/software.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively leading diverse teams and coordinating with subject matter experts.
  • Familiarity with common procurement systems and processes (e.g., SAP, Oracle).

 

You Might Also Have:

  • Familiarity with Seagate products and technologies.
  • Familiarity with Seagate development processes (TDP, Research Phase Gates, PLCP, DevOps, etc).

 

The estimated base salary range for this position is $144,164.80 - $210,107.04. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

This role is onsite at either of the following locations: Shakopee, MN or Longmont, CO.
