About the role - you will:

Seagate Technology is looking for a talented researcher to directly contribute to advanced research efforts in data security. The Senior Research Engineer will be responsible for generating and evaluating new data privacy solutions, supporting research and product teams with security expertise, representing Seagate in the academic community, and conducting novel research in their field.  Our ideal candidate combines intellectual curiosity with practical, results-driven research that builds on existing bodies of knowledge to produce actionable benefits for end users. 

As a Senior Research Engineer, you’ll be responsible for:   

  • Developing an original research agenda and contributing to ongoing collaborations 
  • Designing new cryptographic technologies 
  • Publishing papers, filing patents, and presenting results at industry and academic conferences 
  • Communicating with subject matter experts at all Seagate worldwide sites  
  • Evaluating new trends in cryptography and emerging algorithms and protocols  
  • Providing guidance for future Seagate products 
  • You may be required to travel domestically on occasion.  

About you:

  • You have deep expertise in cryptographic design and analysis. You are looking for an opportunity that allows you to learn and grow as a researcher, and one that encourages you to be hands-on a project from genesis to completion. 
  • You’re an effective communicator of both technical details and high-level concepts, especially to those outside your field.  
  • PhD or equivalent education and experience in the field of Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.  
  • Research/Publication record in cryptography, systems security, or a related field. 
  • Specializations in lattice cryptography, fully homomorphic encryption, secure computing, or privacy-enhancing technologies are a plus. 
  • Programming experience (e.g., Rust, C/C++, Python)  

Your experience includes:

PhD by June 2024 in the field of Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
