We’re seeking a dedicated research intern with interests in cryptography, systems security, or related areas of computer science. On the Data Trust team, you’ll be responsible for working with our cryptography and systems security experts to design, evaluate, and prototype the best possible data protection techniques. Our internship projects offer a deep dive into a topic that is carefully chosen for your expertise and maximizes your learning opportunities. As an industry research lab, we combine academic rigor and careful analytic work with business drive and a focus on practicality and deployment readiness. You’ll work on an interdisciplinary team of engaging researchers and develop connections with our local and global networks that will last beyond the initial internship period.
About the role - you will:
• Perform fundamental research in data security and write peer-reviewed scientific papers • Create formal analyses, new algorithm designs, or prototype implementations that advance the field of data security. • Present work to colleagues within Seagate and at external conferences • Learn about and contribute to an understudied but fundamental pillar of the Internet, AI, and data science fields. • Collaborate with experts around the globe, both Seagate-affiliated and outside • Join an exciting cohort of students in a wide array of fields, including computer science, chemical & mechanical engineering, and biology
About you:
• Have programming skills using one or more languages such as Rust, Go, C, C++, or Python • Good verbal and written communication skills • Teamwork is a core competency at Seagate, so you must be able to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people
Your experience includes:
• Familiarity with principles of cryptography and systems security is essential • Experience with formal verification, theorem provers, or provable security analysis • Current MS or PhD student in computer science or a closely related subject and enrolled in fall 2026 classes.

Our Shakopee campus is located 25 minutes southwest of Minneapolis in a setting with a rural vibe – it overlooks a horse racing track and stables, yet it has great entertainment venues close by as well. The estimated base wage range for this position is $29-$43/hr. The individual base wage is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Seagate offers comprehensive benefits to its eligible Interns, including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, and participation in the employee stock purchase plan. Seagate also offers Interns 12 paid holidays and a minimum of 48 hours of paid sick leave. The benefits for this position are based on a 24 to 40-hour-per-week schedule for a full calendar year and may differ depending on work location and tenure with the Company
