Engineer - Firmware - Entry Level

About our group:

This role will report to the Engineering Manager in the controller firmware group at Seagate. The team develops and maintains firmware for low-level drive operations (media data management, servo, read channel, formatter, preamps, etc.), which provides the base firmware architecture for disc drives and storage devices. This role is critical in supporting teams across the organization to build highly optimized firmware designs for storage products. 

About the role - you will:

  • You will work across the organization to build highly optimized firmware designs for storage products. 
  • Analyze, design, program, debug and modifies HDD firmware.  
  • Often work with analog and digital hardware and software operating systems 
  • Often rely on your  knowledge and exposure to hardware design 
  • Program in C and some assembly code programming is required 

About you:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related degree 
  • You have strong and growing software programming and debugging skills with the use of hardware and software tools, and test equipment to deliver high quality, high-performance firmware for Seagate 
  • Experience in Hardware & firmware interaction, firmware development 
  • Command of C language programming experience 
  • Very good understanding of Analysis, design, debug and firmware modification. 
  • Experience with software engineering, computer architecture, memory technologies, data structure and algorithms 
  • Good understanding of Storage domain (SATA/SAS), with hardware resources like DMAs, Buses, UARTs, memories, and storage protocol: SAS or SATA 
  • Good understanding on protocol analyzers, logic analyzers 
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills 
  • Command of C language programming skills 
  • Experience with bout software engineering, computer architecture, memory technologies, data structure and algorithms. 
  • Strong software programming and debugging skills with the use of hardware and software tools, and test equipment
