About our group:

 

Seagate Research Group is seeking a motivated biochemistry intern who will develop and execute procedures for a variety of projects related to nucleotide ligation and/or oligo purification. The protocols under study would be in support of research related to using nucleic acids for data storage applications. The position is based at Seagate’s R&D site in Shakopee, MN, about 15 miles south of downtown Minneapolis.

About the role - you will:

 

  • Review primary literature to gain knowledge of different chemical nucleic acid ligation techniques and the suitability of these for different data storage or molecular compute applications.
  • Select appropriate chemical methods to implement in Seagate’s biochemistry/biosensing applications.
  • Perform benchtop experiments to prove developed concepts.
  • Develop experimental protocols for transferring bench experiments to Seagate’s lab-on-a-chip.

About you:

 

 

  • Self-motivated, independent and a team player with strong communication skills
  • Attentive to detail and proactive

Your experience includes:

 

  • Executing written protocols in a laboratory setting, particularly in a biochemical laboratory.
  • Familiarity with concepts in nucleic acid chemistry.
  • Familiarity with methods for the chemical modification of surfaces.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.
  • Experience with lab-on-a-chip.
  • Pursuing an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, or other related discipline and must be enrolled in Fall 2025 classes.
