About our group:

 

Advanced Transducer Development (ATD) is responsible for developing recording head technology for Seagate’s HDD (Hard Disk Drive) products being introduced in 4+ years.  The Recording Head Metrology and Chemical Integration group is responsible for providing best-in-class characterization and analysis in support of ATD’s mission, with additional targeted support provided for HAMR new product integration.

About the role - you will:

 

  • Conduct experiments to understand Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) failure mechanisms and the impact of the drive chemical environment.
  • Contribute to the development of chemical budgets for the drive system and the associated specification of components.
  • Establish best-practice methods and standards for component and drive analysis for worldwide adoption.
  • Perform chemical analysis on failures from the factory, qualification test beds, and field.
  • Provide measurement and analysis support for new materials qualification.
  • Partner with other teams to develop contamination control features in the drive
  • Manage tiger teams if needed to bring corporate focus to key issues.

Your experience includes:

 

  • Wet chemistry skills including dilution and standards preparation or surface analysis experience.
  • Able to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field (i.e., organic, physical, analytical, metrology, chemical engineering, or materials science) and 12+ years of experience or master’s degree in the same and 8+ years’ experience or PhD and 5+ years’ experience or equivalent experience and education.

 

You might also have:

 

  • Background in organic chemistry and analytical techniques including GC/MS and FTIR
  • Experience in interface chemistry, outgassing, and/or tribology, and contamination controls
  • Experience in the disk drive industry

The estimated base salary range for this position is $137363.20 - $200,200.00. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
