About our group:

Servo Engineering’s primary mission is to provide robust ultra-precision position control technologies to enable aggressive advancement in high performance HDD areal density growth. The team also serves a critical HDD Systems role, working closely with and enabling other functions in the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Recording Technology, Tribology, Customer Interface, Manufacturing, and Reliability. In this role you will be part of the Servo Product Integration Group and will provide high level design and Integration assistance to enable Seagate’s future roadmap.  

About the role - you will:

  • Accelerate your technical growth through a structured development track designed to build specialized expertise in Servo and SCOPY engineering.
  • Solve challenging, multidisciplinary technical problems in Embedded System design to support a sustainable roadmap for HDD Areal Density & Performance growth.
  • Focus on implementing next-generation servo code, hardware settings, and self-writing technology, with a heavy emphasis on end-to-end product integration. In particular,
    • Analyze & Diagnose: Learn to identify legacy code structures and hardware settings that cause engineering bottlenecks or technical challenges in early product development.
    • Develop Solutions: Collaborative design, simulate, and implement hard disk drive (HDD) control solutions addressing complex physical and firmware problems.
    • Validate & Verify: Master rigorous design validation and verification protocols to ensure firmware and hardware robustness.
    • Explore Next-Gen Tech: Actively participate in cutting-edge technology initiatives, focusing on multi-actuator systems and advanced parallelism engineering.
    • Scale to Manufacturing: Bridge the gap between R&D and production by supporting the deployment of your solutions directly into the factory for high-volume manufacturing.
    • Innovate Dynamically: Work in an open-minded, collaborative laboratory environment that intentionally fosters personal innovation and continuous learning.

About you:

  • Exceptional technical foundation in control systems or signal processing.
  • A strong curiosity about hardware/firmware intersections, and a desire to build deep technical expertise in advanced testing, product integration, and servo writing architectures.
  • Growth Mindset: An intense desire and eagerness to learn, discover, and apply complex control systems theories, hardware principles, and automated self-servo writing (SCOPY) methodologies.
  • Strong Communicator: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical and integration problems, present findings, and collaborate across engineering teams.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Strong teamwork skills with the ability to thrive alongside diverse, cross-functional engineering squads in a high-tech lab.
  • Agility: self-starting initiative, and excellent time and task management capabilities.

Your experience includes:

  • Knowledge and skills on RISC-V, Embedded Systems is a requirement
  • High level of comfort with Matlab and basic knowledge of embedded software development
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field (i.e. Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, aerospace or Information Technology) and 2+ years of experience or Master’s degree in the same and 0+ years of experience.

  • Experience with Control systems implementation
  • Matlab + Simulink, C, Python
  • Programming for embedded systems and real time computing
  • Data collection (Scopes, DAC NI Equipment)
  • Machine learning

The estimated base salary range for this position is $76,856.00 - $109,892.00. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
