Job Description:

About our group:

Our Drive Backend Assembly Equipment Engineering team enables manufacturing performance through equipment readiness, reliability, and continuous improvement. We apply engineering expertise, structured problem-solving, and data-driven analysis to enhance equipment availability, process stability, product quality, and production efficiency.

About the role - you will:

In this senior individual-contributor role, you will provide strategic technical leadership for Drive Backend Assembly equipment, shaping engineering decisions through technical expertise and cross-functional influence.

  • Define the equipment engineering strategy and technical roadmap to align equipment capability, capacity, reliability, and lifecycle priorities with manufacturing needs.
  • Lead equipment specification, design reviews, installation, qualification, and buyoff. Define acceptance criteria for safety, capability, repeatability, cycle time, maintainability, and production readiness.
  • Lead the technical resolution of complex equipment failures and recurring downtime. Coordinate containment, structured troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action validation with manufacturing, process engineering, and quality teams.
  • Use overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), availability, mean time between failures (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), downtime, and cycle time data to prioritize improvements and verify manufacturing results.
  • Develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, critical spares requirements, calibration controls, and equipment health monitoring. Establish standard work and validate maintenance effectiveness.
  • Provide technical guidance across functions and work with equipment suppliers to address capability gaps. Mentor engineers and technicians in equipment diagnostics, reliability, and structured problem-solving.
  • Drive equipment upgrades, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve throughput and optimize lifecycle cost. Evaluate technical risks, validate changes, and standardize proven solutions across applicable equipment.
  • Own equipment technical risk assessments, change control, and engineering documentation. Present investment recommendations, project milestones, and performance outcomes to stakeholders in support of team, department, and company Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).

About you:

  • Strong technical ownership and sound engineering judgment, with the ability to balance immediate production needs with sustainable solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Strategic mindset balanced with a hands-on approach to critical technical investigations.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to influence technical decisions without direct authority, build effective working relationships, and uphold safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to distinguish symptoms from root causes and maintain a focus on measurable outcomes.
  • Clear written and spoken English communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to different audiences and a willingness to share knowledge to support others’ development.

Your experience includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation/Control Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing equipment engineering, including technical ownership of equipment reliability, sustaining engineering, and performance improvement. Experience in Drive Backend Assembly is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in equipment specification, design reviews, installation, qualification, buyoff, and production ramp support, with a working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, control, and automation systems.
  • Proven experience resolving complex equipment failures through structured root cause analysis and data-driven methods, and implementing maintenance, equipment health monitoring, and critical spares strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional equipment projects, resolving supplier technical issues, mentoring engineers and technicians, and presenting technical recommendations and investment proposals to stakeholders.
