Job Title:  Staff Engineer (COMSOL Simulation & Tooling Design)
Posting Start Date:  10/29/26
Requisition Id:  14996
Job Description:

About our group:

We are a dynamic engineering team at the Seagate Korat Slider Factory, driving innovation in process and tooling development to support next-generation storage products. We are looking for a passionate and skilled engineer to lead simulation-driven design and development of equipment tooling and process solutions to support New Product Roadmap, including both cleaning and mechanical systems tailored for new, optimized form factor products. This role is critical in ensuring mechanical robustness, surface quality, cleanliness performance, and equipment readiness to meet the stringent demands of next-gen manufacturing.

About the role - you will:

•    Lead the design and development of cleaning processes and equipment tooling specifically tailored for handling and processing miniaturized or new form factor components
•    Define requirements and methods for cleaning processes (e.g., ultrasonic, brush, chemical, DI water), ensuring compatibility with product design and contamination control standards
•    Develop and optimize tooling and process solutions for precision manufacturing operations including slicing, lapping, dicing, cleaning, and material handling
•    Utilize simulation tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics to model mechanical behavior, fluid dynamics, thermal effects, and process interactions for tooling and equipment optimization
•    Collaborate with suppliers and internal equipment development teams to design, prototype, and refine tooling and equipment platforms that support evolving product architectures
•    Validate process and tooling performance through DOE, metrology, surface analysis, and particle/contamination testing using techniques such as optical microscopy, AFM, SEM, and other analytical methods
•    Conduct root cause analysis and implement improvements for process-related defects, contamination issues, equipment downtime, or process instability
•    Document process specifications, operating procedures, and qualification protocols for cross-functional alignment

About you:

•    Strong knowledge of precision manufacturing processes, including slicing, lapping, dicing, cleaning, contamination control, and mechanical tooling design
•    Experience in high-precision or high-purity manufacturing environments (e.g., semiconductor, hard disk drive, electronics, or advanced manufacturing)
•    Proficient in CAD modeling and mechanical design tools such as SolidWorks, with experience in tooling design, assembly design, GD&T, and engineering drawings
•    Experienced with COMSOL Multiphysics for mechanical, fluid dynamics, thermal, and process simulations related to manufacturing equipment and tooling development
•    Familiar with fluid dynamics, brushing, ultrasonic cleaning, chemical compatibility, surface preparation, and contamination control methodologies
•    Understanding of process development fundamentals for slicing, lapping, dicing, cleaning, and equipment automation
•    Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills using data-driven approaches.
•    Capable of leading projects independently and collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams
•    Effective in communicating technical details and driving project milestones within cross-functional environment

Your experience includes:

•    Bachelor’s or Higher degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or a related Engineering discipline
•    Experience utilizing COMSOL Multiphysics or other mechanical simulation software to model stress, deformation, fluid flow, and process interactions for equipment and tooling optimization
•    Strong understanding of precision manufacturing processes, including slicing, lapping, dicing, and cleaning, with the ability to apply simulation and engineering analysis to improve process performance and product quality
•    Familiarity with fluid dynamics, ultrasonic cleaning, and contamination control methodologies, including simulation-based analysis of cleaning effectiveness and process robustness

Location:

Our Korat facility is our largest manufacturing site worldwide. Here, our team produces cloud-based storage equipment, from individual storage components to finished drives. Employees enjoy ample on-site parking, free shuttle vans and buses within the city of Korat, as well as transportation to and from Bangkok and Khon Kaen province on weekends. At work, you can grab a delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks at one of our 24/7 on-site canteens or coffee shops. We offer table tennis, basketball, volleyball, a running/walking trail, and exercise classes in our on-site fitness center. In addition, there are relaxing spaces with comfortable seating both indoors and outdoors, perfect for taking a break during the day.
Additionally, consider joining any of our employee resource groups (ERGs), such as Seagate Women in Leadership Network (SWLN), Seagate PRIDE: Thailand chapter, or Seagate Asia’s parents and caregivers group. We also have many on-site recreation events and opportunities to give back to the local community.
