Sr Engineer (Slider SEM Metrology Development)

About our group:

Our team at the Seagate Korat Slider Factory focuses on high-precision mechanical process engineering for the next generation of data storage products. We are seeking an engineer to support the development and optimization of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) metrology to support advanced magnetic recording transducer roadmap. 

About the role - you will:

•    Join the development team and own SEM metrology execution for advanced HDD transducer design and broader Slider process needs.
•    Develop, optimize, and maintain SEM measurement recipes, with primary focus on advanced transducer features (measurement methodology, data extraction rules).
•    Qualify and release measurement recipes using metrology validation methods, including GR&R, stability monitoring, and correlation or bias checks when standards or references are available.
•    Provide fast, accurate SEM measurement support for development lots and engineering studies, including DOE support, root cause investigations, and critical issue turnarounds.
•    Expand SEM recipe coverage beyond transducer measurements to enable additional SEM use cases across the Slider process, including process monitoring, defect and anomaly characterization, and structural or profile assessments.
•    Troubleshoot SEM measurement performance issues such as charging, drift, contamination, image instability, focus and astigmatism sensitivity, and recipe robustness.
•    Partner with vendor site support and field service to maintain tool uptime, coordinate preventive maintenance readiness, post-PM recovery and re-qualification, and drive actions to reduce downtime.
•    Document and control recipe releases, updates, and best practices, including work instructions, change logs, and training materials for consistent execution.

About you:

•    Bachelor’s or Higher degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline
•    Strong hands-on capability operating SEM for measurement and characterization.
•    Solid understanding of metrology fundamentals, including measurement uncertainty drivers, error sources, and measurement system analysis concepts (GR&R, stability).
•    Practical problem-solving skills for tool and measurement issues, using structured root cause methods and data-driven decision making.
•    Strong communication and documentation skills, able to translate measurement requirements into executable recipes and communicate results clearly to engineering stakeholders.
•    Comfortable coordinating with vendors and internal equipment teams, including follow-up discipline to closure.

Your experience includes:

•    Experience supporting HDD transducer development or slider process metrology in a high-precision manufacturing environment.
•    Experience developing SEM measurement recipes for critical dimension type features, alignment-sensitive measurements, or multi-layer feature evaluation.
•    Experience working with SEM vendors and site support teams on uptime, maintenance coordination, and recovery qualification after PM or repairs.
