About the role - you will:

 

We are seeking a business-minded, technology-focused Managing Counsel to join our global Legal Team in Singapore. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Commercial Contracts, in the U.S, you will lead a team of commercial contracts managers based in Singapore and the U.S, provide strategic commercial legal advice, and improve contracting processes and risk management.

This role is ideal for an experienced commercial transactions lawyer who combines effective people leadership with practical, business-focused legal advice in a dynamic, global, fast-paced technology environment. 

 

Team Leadership 

 

  • Lead, coach, and develop a cross-border team of commercial contracts managers supporting business clients across multiple locations and time zones.
  • Set team priorities, allocate work, establish clear expectations, and promote consistent, high-quality service. 
    Provide direction, feedback, and development opportunities that strengthen individual capabilities, team performance, and succession readiness.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and accountable work environment. 

 

Commercial Legal Support 

 

  • Advise business stakeholders on complex domestic and cross-border commercial transactions and the legal and commercial implications of proposed contract terms.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements using Seagate templates and approved contracting standards. 
    Identify nonstandard terms, assess material risks, recommend practical solutions, and escalate matters in accordance with Seagate policies.
  • Translate business requirements into clear contractual obligations and advise stakeholders on risk-based decisions that address relevant domestic and international considerations. 

 

Process and Cross-Functional Leadership

 

  • Oversee contract intake, negotiation, approval, execution, amendment, renewal, and archiving processes throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Develop and improve templates, playbooks, escalation protocols, workflow standards, and contract management practices.
  • Partner with Legal and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve issues, improve processes, support audits, and advance business initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver training on contracts, legal risks, and related policies.
  • Monitor relevant legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments and advise the business on their potential impact. 
    Support other Legal Team priorities and manage outside counsel relationships, as appropriate.
  • Perform other responsibilities consistent with the role’s scope and business needs

Your experience includes:

 

  • Law degree or equivalent qualification, admission to practice law in Singapore or another jurisdiction acceptable for the role, and at least six years of post-qualification legal experience. 
  • Substantial commercial transactional experience at a law firm, multinational company, or comparable organization, with a significant focus on commercial contracts. 
  • Experience leading and managing a cross-border team of legal professionals supporting business clients across multiple locations and time zones. 
  • Experience as a people leader who provides clear direction, meaningful coaching, and development opportunities. 
  • Strong knowledge of core contracting principles, the consequences of contractual language, and the implications of contract terms for business transactions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate complex cross-border commercial agreements. 
  • Excellent written and verbal professional communication skills in English. 

 

You might also have:

 

  • Experience advising a global technology company or similarly complex multinational business. 
  • Experience with contract lifecycle management, contracting workflows, approval processes, templates, playbooks, and operational improvement initiatives. 
  • Experience supporting audits, developing and delivering training, and managing outside counsel relationships. 
  • Experience using, or demonstrated ability to learn, approved AI tools and applications to improve efficiency and ways of working.
