Staff Firmware Engineer

About our group:

The EDS Linux Platform team lays the foundation for managing the storage systems in Lyve Rack, PODS, and other storage arrays (All Flash, Hybrid & Disk Arrays).   This is a unique opportunity to build an internal Linux distribution customized for Seagate products.   The team shares responsibility for writing daemons, integrating open source, and updating the kernel and device drivers.   It can be challenging to switch contexts so often and the most successful members are good at developing expertise in a variety of areas.  Many groups in Seagate interact with the EDS management interfaces and this position provides an opportunity to build relationships in each of those groups. 

About the role - you will:

In this role, you will design and develop embedded Linux platforms for managing RAID storage devices.   Day-to-day tasks range from tuning Linux device drivers for specific hardware or customizing the Linux kernel for memory constrained, embedded applications.    The position is also responsible for firmware update logic for RAID storage devices, open source integration and various Linux daemons.  This is a firmware development position and requires code reviews, participating in architectural decisions, and providing documented code. 

About you:

  • You are an experienced firmware engineer with a track record of developing innovative ideas and leading complex projects.  

  • You effectively communicate and document software design and listen and constructively discuss technical problems with customers, QA team, and other stakeholders. 

Your experience includes:

  • Strong Object Oriented C++ and standard C programming. 
  • Linux device driver and kernel development in a multi-core, embedded environment. 
  • Experience with POSIX, multi-process communication, inter-process communication, remote system calls. 
  • Experience designing and developing complex multi-threaded applications. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and 5-13 years of experience.

Colorado's 2021 Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (SB 19-085) requires we inform you of the estimated salary range for this position: $95,200 - $140,300.
