Job Description
Job Title:  Cost Modeling Analyst Intern
Posting Start Date:  9/8/26
Job Description:

About our group:

The Cost Modeling team helps Seagate understand how products and components are manufactured around the world and what drives their cost.

We work at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and analytics to develop cost models that support supplier negotiations, manufacturing decisions, product design tradeoffs, and cost optimization opportunities. Our work provides a unique opportunity to learn how products move from raw materials through manufacturing processes to finished goods.

About the role - you will:

  • Your work will help inform supplier negotiations, manufacturing decisions, and product cost optimization efforts across Seagate's supply chain.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes, materials, equipment, labor, yield, and other cost drivers.
  • Research manufacturing technologies, production methods, and industry practices.
  • Support cost analysis, benchmarking, and scenario modeling.
  • Work with Engineering, Supply Chain, Commodity Management, Operations, and other subject matter experts to gather information and validate assumptions.
  • Present analyses, insights, and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Support initiatives related to manufacturing efficiency, cost optimization, and supplier engagement.

About you:

  • You are naturally curious and enjoy understanding how things work.
  • You are comfortable learning unfamiliar topics, asking questions, and solving problems that do not always have a clear answer. You enjoy combining technical, analytical, and business thinking to develop practical solutions.
  • You take ownership of your work, independently drive progress, and communicate your findings clearly.
  • Most importantly, you are interested in both manufacturing and analytics and want to better understand how engineering decisions influence business outcomes.

Your experience includes:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in understanding how products are designed, manufactured, and costed.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to independently drive work forward.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings and recommendations clearly.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and incomplete information.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar technical concepts quickly and collaborate with subject matter experts.
  • Current Bachelor's or Master's student with coursework or project experience related to engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, operations, analytics, or other technical disciplines, and returning to classes in Fall 2027.
