Sr Materials/Chemical Analyst

About our group:

 

The Materials Science Lab at Seagate Fremont Research Center is a leader in materials and chemical analysis, thin film characterization, defect identification, and KPIV/mechanism understanding for magnetic media R&D.  The lab works with product development, worldwide materials labs, and manufacturing to understand complicated materials and performance issues, provide solution paths, in-depth analysis, and develop novel applications for lab instrumentation. The lab is well-equipped with a variety of analytical, micro-analytical, spectroscopic, microscopic, and surface sensitive instrumentation: TOF-SIMS, XPS, SEM/EDX, FIB/TEM, AFM, Raman, FTIR, GD-OES, LC/MS, GC/MS, ICP-MS, GPC, IC, TMIC, WCA

About the role - you will:

 

  • Demonstrate your understanding of materials & inorganic chemistry and instrumentation,
  • Provide in-depth analysis and analytical expertise
  • Collaborate with the process line and development groups at Seagate to anticipate reliability issues, improve media yield, troubleshoot process line contaminants, and design novel methods for mechanism understanding.

Your experience includes:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in (Materials, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent field and 5+ years experience, or Master’s Degree in same and 3+ years experience, or PHD and 0+ years of experience or equivalent education and experience

 

You might also have:

 

  • Experience with hands-on operation of multiple instrumentation.
  • Strong materials characterization, data interpretation, and big data analysis background is a plus.
