R&D Scientist - Spintronics/2D Materials Device Designer

You will work as part of an established team reporting to the Research & Development Manager defining and delivering future data storage technologies and products. About the role - you will:
Our Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording Technology (HAMR) technology is a world-leading data storage technology to address the cloud data storage market. Leveraging our high-tech design tools and advanced manufacturing processes you will be responsible for research and development in the areas of spintronics and 2D materials device design and the integration of emerging technologies into new products to meet performance and reliability requirements. We are looking for someone who is excited by new technologies, is naturally creative and passionate about seeing ideas come to life. You will be involved in one or more of the following areas: • Development of spintronic and 2D material device simulation strategies.
• Micromagnetic, atomistic, DFT, tight binding and other relevant modelling approaches to simulate materials and device performance.
• Help develop of new modelling methods to understand and improve spintronic/2D device performance.
• Application of spintronic device and 2D materials understanding to development of magnetic read sensors and other applications.
• Layout of magnetic sensing devices and simulate circuits with computer aided design (CAD) tools.
• Collaboration with colleagues in other design and process areas to deliver integrated solutions.
• Project planning and collaboration with adjacent teams and internal customers.
About you:
You are:

Your experience includes:
• In-depth knowledge of spintronics and/or 2D materials. You may also have: Completed applications should be submitted no later than midnight on Sunday, 28th September 2025
• Experience in magnetic and/or 2D materials modelling.
• Familiarity in data analysis techniques and packages (e.g. JMP, etc.).
• Programming experience e.g. Python/SQL/R, etc.
• PhD degree or equivalent qualification in physics, materials science, or electrical engineering.
• Academic research or industrial experience would be considered a distinct advantage.
• Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver.
This is a Full-Time position working 39 hours per week.
