About our group:

 

Our global team is responsible for the characterization and understanding of the recording physics and system reliability and integration of the Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology for hard drives.

 

Our specific group focuses on the Mechanical and Dynamic performance of the Head Gimbal Assembly (HGA), which is primarily responsible for the tracking/servo performance of the Read/Write Head in the Hard Disc Drive (HDD)

 

 

About the role - you will:

 

This role will champion the development and implementation of novel test methodologies to advance the understanding of HAMR system mechanical and electrical performance and reliability.  In partnership with design, you will characterize the performance of the newest HGA designs and interpret the results to guide the design direction of the recording head subsystem.  This characterization expands several technical fields, mechanics (resonance and modulation) materials science, electrical response to different signals, servo mechanical and hard drive data recording, among others.

Your experience includes:

 

  • Strong programming skills (python, C++, Matlab, LabView)
  • Proficiency in dynamics and vibration analysis, including free and forced vibration, damping, and resonance.
  • Demonstrated use of finite element analysis (FEA) tools like ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL for vibration modeling and simulation.
  • Expertise in designing and analyzing small-scale mechanical components like actuators, spindles, and suspension systems.
  • Conducting experimental modal analysis and interpreting test results.
  • Experience with modal analysis and frequency response analysis.
  • Knowledge in data analysis techniques (JMP, Six Sigma, Clustering)
  • Knowledge or experience in Signal analysis techniques include spectral analysis, time-frequency analysis, wavelet analysis, digital signal processing, and filtering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field (i.e. Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, or Information Technology) and 8+ years of experience or Master’s degree in the same and 6+ years’ experience or PhD and 3+ years’ experience or equivalent experience and education.

 

You might also have:

 

  • Knowledge in measurement of physical characteristics
  • Knowledge or experience of Interferometer (WLI) systems or physics.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $102,648.00 - $149,589.00. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
