About our group:

We are seeking a highly analytical and strategic thinking Staff Commodity Manager to lead the management of key Technology based commodities (HDD head related assemblies and subcomponents).  This role will be On-site at our Bloomington, MN location (preferred) or our Longmont, CO location.

About the role - you will:

This role is paramount to ensuring supply continuity, cost competitiveness, and Supplier innovation projects to drive resiliency and cost optimization.  This role requires proficiency in understanding Supplier’ capabilities, manufacturing processes, and quality standards to be able to collaborate with internal and external cross-functional teams.  A candidate who can analyze potential risks, efficiency improvements, and pinpoint the primary cost factors through detailed cost modeling will be successful in this role.  Leading negotiations, managing price forecasting, creating capacity plans, and ensuring product roadmap and technical requirements needs are being met is critical.  The role is designed to create new data-driven planning, risk mitigation, and Supplier diversification initiatives.  A Commodity Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring Seagate’s data solution are developed, produced, and protected into the future through efficient, profitable, and sustainable innovation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Supplier Relationship and Performance Management:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with current and future Supply base.
  • Maintain deep understanding of Supplier capabilities and manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate reliability, quality, and delivery of performance from Suppliers.

 

Strategic Planning:

  • Set and lead direction on sourcing based on global conditions, cost structures, and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, R&D, Quality, and Operations to align sourcing strategies with product roadmaps and technical requirements.
  • Identify potentials risk and develop mitigation plans.

 

Negotiation & Cost Analysis:

  • Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms with Suppliers.
  • Lead negotiations, contract management, and performance reviews.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through value analysis, should-cost modeling, and competitive benchmarking.

Supply Chain Forecasting:

  • Proactively identify, mitigate, and manage risks and volatility.
  • Set scenario-based plans to manage supply, demand, and capacity.
  • Oversee significant budgets and financial plans.

 

Value Creation:

  • Bring new ideas and latest best-in-class improves to Supply Chain.
  • Perform sensitivity analyses to assess the impact of variable changes on cost structures.
  • Proficiency in implementing and configuring supply chain solutions, including knowledge of setup, configuration, change management and integration with other systems.

About you:

  • Ability to control negotiations and manage multiple project goals simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel, data modeling, and analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain dynamics, and cost accounting principles. 
  • Technical experience in manufacturing or engineering is highly desirable.

Your experience includes:

  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and identify drivers, trends, and patterns.
  • Ability to present insights in a clear and concise manner to stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of profit margins, cost structures, and return on investment (ROI) analysis
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain dynamics, and operational workflows.
  • Awareness of market trends and external factors affecting costs.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving business needs and technological advancements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business Analytics, or a related field with 8+ years of experience.

 

 

The estimated base salary range for this position is $93,600.00 - $136,410.56. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
