About our group:
We are the head failure analysis and microscopy characterization team within the Head Analysis and Performance Group at Seagate's R&D and Operations site in Bloomington, Minnesota. Our team consists of engineers and technicians in the failure analysis, electron microscopy, and materials characterization areas. We use high precision and high-resolution tools (such as AFM, FIB, SEM, and TEM) to support magnetic head development and production through fundamental materials characterization and root cause estimation
About the role - you will:
- Develop failure analysis plans, analyzing results, summarizing and documenting root cause understanding
- Perform various levels of designing, developing, adjusting, repairing, calibrating, and testing lab fixtures / equipment.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders in the Seagate R&D organizations
- Prepare, characterize, and analyze materials and devices using microscopy or other lab tools (FIB, SEM, TEM, optical imaging, etc.)
- Support the TEM/EDS/EELS advanced analysis work to achieve customer satisfactions
- Assist in new TEM tool staging and purchase related tasks, such as specifications and capability assessment, vendor/model selections, sample demos, KT, justifications, purchase and service agreement negotiations, tool installation and acceptance test, etc.
- Work with lab equipment vendors to ensure TEM equipment calibration and maintenance.
- Document microscopy work instructions and other lab work procedures in the format of SOP or WI.

Your experience includes:
- Experience with materials analysis, sample characterization, and use of microscopy tools.
- Hands on TEM operations and troubleshooting.
- Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Material Science, Engineering or other related fields and 5+ years experience, or Master’s Degree in same and 3+ years experience, or PhD and 0+ years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
You might also have:
- Hands on experience in working with the lab staff and the tool vendors to maintain the lab equipment in good working conditions.
- Data analysis skills such as JMP and data/result documentation with MS Office.
- Photoshop or other image processing skills.
