Job Description
Job Title:  Sr Engineer - Wafer Configuration and Product Support
Posting Start Date:  11/2/26
Requisition Id:  15486
Job Description:

About our group:

The Head Analysis and Performance Group (HAPG) partners with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Technology Development teams to support the successful qualification, launch, and production of Seagate recording head technologies. Our team provides data-driven analysis, product qualification support, engineering evaluations, issue investigations, and operational decision-making that enable high-quality products and efficient factory execution.

The Wafer Configuration and Product Support teams within HAPG serve as the operational bridge between Wafer Product Engineering, Production Control, Manufacturing Operations, and Development teams. We coordinate wafer allocation, engineering evaluations, OPTI activities, SHN and exception management, and production material flow to ensure the right wafer material is available at the right time for both manufacturing and engineering needs. Through cross-functional coordination and proactive problem solving, we help accelerate learning, minimize production disruptions, and support critical product and business decisions.

About the role - you will:

  • Coordinate wafer allocation and material flow to support production, approved engineering trials, product qualifications, technical investigations, and development activities.
  • Serve as primary point of contact to coordinate evaluation requests with Wafer Engineering, Production Control, and Manufacturing stakeholders, supporting prioritization, scheduling, tracking, communication, and execution.
  • Coordinate approved special engineering wafer requests, including OPTI requests, by supporting wafer selection, tracking, communication, and execution.
  • Coordinate the wafer-material activities required to execute approved product, process, and configuration changes, including material identification, status tracking, stakeholder communication, and production-flow coordination.
  • Partner with Wafer Product Engineering, Production Control, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing Operations to resolve material constraints and production delays.
  • Support production hold and exception-management activities, including applicable SHN workflows, by tracking impacted material, coordinating approved actions, and escalating execution constraints.
  • Coordinate engineering wafer swaps, scrap-wafer utilization, and special material requests to support approved engineering work while minimizing disruption to production priorities.
  • Maintain visibility of wafer requests, inventory, material status, priorities, execution risks, and required actions. Communicate issues that could affect approved schedules or production needs.
  • Support technical investigations and wafer evaluations through data collection, tracking, reporting, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Identify and support improvements to wafer-request, material-tracking, and coordination workflows.
  • Drive process improvements, automation opportunities, and workflow simplification to improve responsiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Develop visibility tools and metrics that improve planning, prioritization, and decision-making across the organization.

About you:

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Skilled at coordinating work across Engineering, Production Control, and Manufacturing.
  • Able to balance approved engineering needs, with competing production priorities, and material constraints, identifying and escalating conflicts and risks to product quality.
  • Proactive in identifying, communicating, and escalating material-related execution risks.
  • Comfortable using manufacturing and material-status data to support coordination decisions and prioritize requests.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Your experience includes:

  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, wafer fabrication, product or process engineering, production control, manufacturing operations, or related environments.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project-coordination skills.
  • Experience working across multiple organizations to resolve complex operational issues.
  • Ability to review manufacturing and material-status data, identify execution risks, and communicate recommended coordination actions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, data-analysis or reporting applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related technical discipline with 5+ years of experience.

You might also have

  • Knowledge of HAMR recording-head manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with wafer fabrication, wafer processing, or semiconductor manufacturing operations.
  • Familiarity with production control, material-planning, inventory-management, or factory-scheduling systems.
  • Experience supporting wafer evaluations, product qualifications, technical investigations, or process changes.
  • Knowledge of production hold, exception-management, SHN, or product-qualification workflows.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, or visibility tools to support material tracking and operational decision-making.
  • Interest or experience in reporting, dashboard development, Power BI, SQL, Python, scripting, or automation tools that could enhance material visibility and workflow efficiency.
