About our group:

 

Advanced Transducer Development (ATD) is responsible for developing recording head technology for Seagate’s HDD (Hard Disk Drive) products to be introduced 4+ years beyond the current state of the art.  The Recording Head Design, Test, and Analysis group is responsible for providing best-in-class characterization and analysis in support of ATD’s mission, with additional targeted support provided for HAMR new product integration.

About the role - you will:

 

  • Perform measurements to understand Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) and next generation recording failure mechanisms
  • Establish best-practice methods and standards for component analysis for worldwide adoption
  • Provide physical insight into recording dynamics of new transducer and media designs
  • Lead discussions on new observed physics and provide hypotheses for the underlying effects
  • Explore stress testing of new failure modes to improve test predictability
  • Translate between spinstand and similar drive tests – provide recommendations of new test algorithms to drive from component learning
  • Work with spinstand development teams to improve on existing hardware and software and in the development of next generation spinstand capabilities
  • Explore new recording modes

Your experience includes:

 

  • Demonstrated understanding of magnetic recording
  • Downstream failure analysis
  • Proven ability to lead tiger team activities and manage major projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field (i.e. Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, or Information Technology) and 12+ years of experience or master’s degree in the same and 8+ years’ experience or PhD and 5+ years’ experience or equivalent experience and education.

 

You might also have:

 

  • Experience in magnetic transducer design
  • Experience in optical design and/or measurement
  • Experience with wafer processing
  • Experience in the disk drive industry

The estimated base salary range for this position is $144,164.00 - $210,107.00. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
