About our group:

The Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) group manages and synchronizes factory execution processes for thin film head wafer operations within Global Wafer Systems.

MES is the software layer that runs and tracks shop-floor execution, dispatching work, capturing production data, enforcing process flows, and enabling end-to-end traceability.

We design, develop, and support systems that enable safe, reliable, and efficient factory operations, with an emphasis on reliability, data integrity, and operational performance.

MES partners closely with wafer operations, process engineering, factory control systems, and global IT teams across Seagate’s wafer fabrication sites in the United States and Northern Ireland.

The team evaluates and applies emerging technologies (including approved GenAI use cases) to improve manufacturing execution, analytics, and decision support within established technical and business frameworks.

About the role - you will:

  • Independently deliver complex tactical and operational projects that enhance MES applications and workflows within established architectures and standards.
  • Design and implement automation solutions that improve operational efficiency, system reliability, and process yield using accepted engineering techniques, practices, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process engineering, wafer operations, factory control systems, and global IT, to understand requirements and implement approved enhancements.
  • Support MES applications through day-to-day operational activities, issue resolution, and participation in planned application or infrastructure upgrades.
  • Apply sound judgment when selecting solutions for known problem spaces and escalate novel or ambiguous issues appropriately.
  • Identify opportunities for standardization, reuse, and incremental improvement across existing MES processes and tools.
  • Participate in cross-site technical discussions and knowledge-sharing forums to contribute insights and learn from peers.

About you:

  • Experience working across departments to solve complex technical and analytical problems.
  • Ability to support multiple projects and internal customers concurrently.
  • An aptitude and interest in systems development, automation, and continuous learning.
  • Demonstrated willingness to share knowledge, learn new techniques, and apply approved GenAI capabilities aligned to MES objectives.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Your experience includes:

  • Experience using statistical analysis tools.
  • Knowledge and practical application of SQL (Structured Query Language).
  • Experience with visual programming or workflow-based automation tools.
  • Experience supporting or enhancing production systems in an operational environment.
  • Typically, 3–6 years of relevant experience supporting and enhancing applications, data/automation, or operational/production systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field (i.e. Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, Materials, Physics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or Information Technology) and 5+ years of experience or Master’s degree in the same and 3+ years’ experience or PhD and 0+ years’ experience or equivalent experience and education.

You might also have:

  • Knowledge of wafer fabrication, semiconductor manufacturing, or factory operations.
  • Familiarity with Lean methods (standard work, root cause analysis, waste reduction, continuous improvement).
  • Experience with Oracle (PL/SQL) or other relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Programming experience in Python (preferred) or another language used for automation and data work (e.g., Java, JavaScript, R).
  • Familiarity with integrations and data interchange formats (e.g., APIs, JSON, XML) and messaging concepts.
