About our group:

The Mechanical Process Development organization plays a critical role in advancing recording head fabrication technologies that enable increased hard disk drive capacity and long-term reliability. This Sr Manager role leads a highly technical team responsible for developing and sustaining solutions in recording head transducer topography, thin film processes, and advanced metrology.

 

The role provides hands-on technical leadership, project oversight, and people development, while partnering closely with volume manufacturing teams to drive effective process transfer and manufacturable execution, with flexibility to collaborate with teams based in Thailand.

About the role - you will:

  • Provide technical direction and prioritization for the team, guiding process development aligned with areal density scaling, product reliability, and the recording head technology roadmap.
  • Build strong partnerships with design and volume manufacturing teams to enable effective process development, transfer, manufacturability, and high-volume production capability.
  • Lead cross functional projects from early feasibility through preproduction insertion, ensuring strong experiment design, data driven decisions, and clear technical risk assessment using statistical best practices and FMEA.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by ensuring process and metrology capabilities are robust, repeatable, and production ready, while coaching the team on process integration and factory engagement.
  • Engage the team in future process brainstorming, build a robust portfolio of projects.
  • Ongoing engagement with global process development partners, with flexibility to support collaboration across international time zones.

About you:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a highly technical team by setting clear priorities and building depth in technical capability, ownership, and execution excellence.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership to guide complex problem solving and drive execution across multiple concurrent process development initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively across global engineering and manufacturing organizations, building strong cross‑functional partnerships, influencing outcomes, and supporting teams across regions and time zones.
  • Drive data driven decision making using statistical, analytical, and AI enabled tools while leading the team effectively through ambiguity and change.

Your experience includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Applied sciences and 12+ years of experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering or Applied sciences and 8+ years of experience, or PHD and 5+ years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Prior experience with Material Deposition, Etch and Characterization methods.
  • Experience with equipment design, development, qualification, and manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated use of statistical problem solving and FMEA.

  • Solid record of academic, professional, and personal achievement relevant to the job requirements.
  • Prior management experience is desirable.

 

 

The estimated base salary range for this position is $143,395.20 - $209,008.80. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
