Seagate is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the Wafer Process Engineering organization at Seagate's Recording Head Operations located in Bloomington, MN.

The Wafer MPI team is responsible for scaling new wafer processes and products from late-stage development into full-volume manufacturing. Our goals include improving wafer process manufacturability, throughput, and recording head device performance.

The MPI team manages wafer builds and engineering optimizations involving lasers and laser light paths, plasmonic transducers, electronic and magnetic elements, material selection, and thermal management in support of Seagate's Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology.

We work closely with Wafer Operations, Wafer Process Development, Wafer Design, and Product Engineering teams to deliver next-generation recording technologies to high-volume manufacturing.

About the role - you will:

• Engage in the development and integration of new reader and writer technologies, including Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR).
• Focus on process manufacturability and readiness as new technologies transition to volume production.
• Prepare, document, and present technical results to a variety of audiences.
• Demonstrate sound judgment when evaluating the technical and business impacts of process change recommendations.
• Design and execute experiments that generate meaningful and statistically valid results.
• Actively contribute to troubleshooting material, manufacturing process, and product design issues.
• Develop expertise within a specialized discipline such as lithography, vacuum processes, plating, CMP, metrology, or configuration/product support within the new process launch environment.
• Collaborate with personnel across multiple organizational levels, from technicians and operators to engineering leadership.
• Build strong working relationships through effective communication and collaboration.
• Provide technical recommendations and support the resolution of critical process and manufacturing challenges.
• Develop skills in Machine Learning, Generative AI, and Data Science applications.
• Support and develop automation solutions using Microsoft Power Automate, Python, and OCAP methodologies.

Your experience includes:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline and 5+ years of experience; or a Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline and 3+ years of experience; or a PhD and 0+ years of experience; or equivalent education and experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and occasionally support off-shift manufacturing issues.
• Demonstrated experience applying Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and statistical process control techniques.
• Ability to travel occasionally to international manufacturing locations.

You Might Also Have:

• Experience in semiconductor or wafer fabrication and/or data storage product development.
• Experience in yield improvement, failure analysis, or CAD applications.
• Experience working as a process integrator or generalist engineer.
• Materials Science background.
• Experience applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to engineering challenges.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $94,140.00 - $134,625.00. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
