Process Development Sr Engineer

About our group:

Our Advanced Slider Cleanroom group is responsible for the development and demonstration of new processes in the Slider (recording head) cleanroom. This includes thin film deposition and patterning, bar/carrier assembly, and related processes. Ownership from idea through feasibility studies and then hand-off to the volume manufacturing site with ongoing collaboration with counterparts as the process is matured and made ready for production.


About the role - you will:

  • Develop methods for application and use of 2D materials as a protective coating.
  • Support and work on continuous improvement for PVD deposition of thin films.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other team members, direct daily work of technicians and operators, and inform associates about overall project status.
  • Lead an effective and comprehensive project management: initial concepts, feasibility, integration, pre-production, and finally assisting with transition to high volume manufacturing.

About you:

  • Knowledge of process equipment/controls related to thin film deposition and handling.
  • Expertise with SPC/APC, calibration techniques, and Six Sigma statistical methods.
  • Experience growing and handling (transfer processes) of 2D materials such as graphene

Your experience includes:

  • B.S. with 4-6 years applied experience, M.S. with 2-4 years applied experience, or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a related mechanical science such as physics or materials science.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with any audience
