Seagate Minnesota Campus (MNC) is seeking a high technology industry facilities senior controls engineer to join the Plant Engineering staff to support the Facilities staff in maintaining facility operations.  The controls engineer will have the responsibility to replace and update controls system hardware, program new and/or modify controls programming, troubleshoot systems, support calibration of controls equipment and sensors, and other duties as needed to ensure proper function of the site’s building automation system (BAS). Be able to work with other communication protocols to verify operation or install new equipment. Maintain database of existing programs. Keep documentation for all existing and new systems. Order parts as the facility needs and approve payments. They will also support other aspects of the site operations as required to ensure 24/7 reliability for the site’s customers.  This role joins the MNC Facilities team of over 40 people and will support Seagate's Bloomington, MN operations – an 800,000 square foot, highly technical facility, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   

About the role - you will:

 

  • Maintain oversight and ownership of the sites BAS – currently using Johnson Controls Metasys system
  • Edit and modify existing BAS programming to incorporate building system changes.
  • Provide fast response and resolution of BAS alarms as they occur. 
  • Directly develop BAS programming code to convert system point list and sequence of operation description into functioning BAS programming code for new building systems or modifications to existing systems. 
  • Conceive and develop solutions to BAS problems through the application of professionally accepted engineering practices and procedures. 
  • Support testing and calibration of BAS IO. 
  • Estimate BAS related costs for labor and materials for building renovations, modifications, or system changes.  
  • Provide engineering support to resolve interruption issues to building controls infrastructure. 
  • Work with external vendors to maintain site BAS systems as necessary. 
  • Provide technical resource for site maintenance technicians and engineers. 
  • Develop and implement long term plan for site BAS system updates. 
  • Provide both written and oral updates to management on the progress of projects and tasks. 
  • Seek out ways to improve energy efficiency through improved programming; support energy monitoring and analysis. 
  • Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians on basic functionality and modifications of the BAS. 
  • Maintains appropriate logs and records of systems’ operations and changes. 
  • Provide project management for a variety of other related tasks and systems, specifically toxic gas systems and particle monitoring. 

About you:

 

  • Experience working with BAS and controls programming. 
  • Experience in process control system design and maintenance including PLC/SCADA programming and database configuration.
  • Ability to learn new programming software and new hardware configuration quickly for immediate contribution and impact.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus) and SCADA systems. 
  • Able to work with minimal oversight, strive to continuously improve the work environment, and understand and set priorities for work. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; communicates and collaborates effectively with customers and other team members. 
  • Ability to work cross functionally with all levels of employees & management. 
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite. 
  • Physical dexterity to climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. 
  • Ability to occasionally work in a cleanroom environment.  
  • Able to work occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.

Your experience includes:

 

  • Proficient in ANY BAS control system software programming including for JCI Metasys, JCI FX,  Siemens, ABB, Alerton, or Automated Logic Controls OR PLC programming using ladder logic, structured text, functional block diagram or instruction list for Emerson, A/B, GE, etc.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, BACnet OR building communication protocol including BACnet.
  • Knowledge of industrial SCADA platform including GE Cimplicity OR BAS platform including Tridium Niagara.
  • Identifying and resolving operational, technical, and procedural problems. 
  •  Control device wiring including current, voltage, RTD and pneumatic IO. 
  • Reading and interpreting manuals, specifications, drawings, and blueprints. 
  • Reading and interpreting meters, gauges, charts, and a variety of instruments. 
  • Reading and interpreting design, PID, control, and electrical drawings. 
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code and MN Low Voltage Electrical Code. 
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar design software 
  • Ability to write Python, .NET and/or VB scripting to aid predictive maintenance and dashboarding. Assisting AutoCAD engineer to keep drawings up to date and clean. 
  • Familiarity with chiller systems, boilers, and other mechanical systems. 
  • Understanding of cleanrooms and how they function.  
  • BS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field, and 5-8 years of experience

 

 

You might also have: 

 

  • Proficient in JCI GX9100, HVACPRO, XTM Configurator, LCT, and CCT Programming or ability to learn and contribute quickly. 
  • Built panels to include wiring, relays, terminal blocks, controller hardware, etc. 
  • Registered unlicensed electrician or power limited registration. 
  • Worked with toxic gas detection and particle monitoring systems.
