About our group:

 

The Thin Film Development Group is responsible for delivering new material and deposition process solutions to Seagate’s advanced recording head development effort.  As part of the wafer process team, we develop best-in-class films using vacuum- and electroplating-based deposition methods, and partner with integration teams to introduce these films into new recording head

designs.  As an enabler of head performance and reliability advances through materials innovation, we help Seagate lead in technology and time-to-market.

About the role - you will:

 

  • Assist PhD-level engineers in the development of advanced devices for next-generation recording heads
  • Participate in all phases of experimentation, including tool and process setup, process quals, experimental wafer processing, pre/post-treatments, and wafer sheet film and device measurements (e,g. Sheet resistance, XRF, XRD, stress, B-H Looper, AFM, ellipsometer, SEM, FIB, prober, uTP, etc),
  • Perform basic data analysis of measurement results 
  • Work with the team through early-stage project maturity phases, from concept to early feasibility to component demonstration
  • Conduct your work in both the RD lab and clean room environments. 
  • Assist with WIP processing and with performing MDAs under engineering guidance
  • Support the installation, modification, upgrade, and maintenance of the development tools needed to support the group projects. Where capable, you will assume primary ownership for certain development tools under the supervision of engineers.
  • Perform basic KPIV data analysis to predict tool performance or detect tool excursions

About you:

 

  • You are self-motivated, able to work independently, and have strong attention to detail.
  • You are a team player capable of working in strong partnership with and communicating effectively with a diverse group of engineers and technicians.
  • You can maintain thorough documentation of results and be able to clearly discuss them with the engineering staff. 
  • You are able and willing to adapt to changing needs of a fast-paced development program.

Your experience includes:

 

  • Prior hands-on experience in wafer processing is strongly preferred. 
  • Knowledge of factory information systems preferred but not required (MES, Xsite, SPC)
  • Knowledge of basic analysis and presentation software (Excel, PowerPoint,)

 

You might also have:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, 3 years of experience or equivalent experience in engineering, chemistry, physics, materials science or related field.
  • Knowledge of thin film recording head processing is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of standard deposition, litho, etch, CMP and/or clean methods and associated measurement methods is strongly preferred

The estimated base wage range for this position is $29.00 - $42.00/hr. The individual base wage is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
